- Tania Holben – Practice Nurse, RGN
I commenced my training as a Health Care Assistant in 1999 at Colchester General Hospital. In 2004 I began my nursing training in earnest, at the Anglia Ruskin University and qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2007.
I gained a wealth of experience whilst working on a busy acute medical ward where I spent three years assisting patients with chronic conditions which included Alcoholic Liver Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease and Cardiac and Lung disorders. During my time on the ward I became more interested in long term lung conditions.
In 2009 I successfully applied for and was offered an exciting role as a practice nurse within a GP Surgery based in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. I was able to undertake and complete courses including Immunisations, Cervical Screening, Ear Syringing, Asthma and Wound Management. I accumulated a lot of knowledge around Asthma, and went on to study spirometry. I remained at this surgery for three years, and was able to gain a lot of useful experience and knowledge. In 2013, an opening for a Practice Nurse became available at the Ardleigh Surgery in Colchester. I commenced my role at Ardleigh and have been at the surgery ever since. Since I began, I have become the lead nurse in Infection Control and Respiratory Disease Management. My next step is to work towards qualifications to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
I am married with two beautiful children, and in my spare time I enjoy running, watching movies and seeing friends and family. I am a prescriber and can prescribe drugs and antibiotics when necessary
